Our Products
“Slow fashion is the widespread reaction to fast fashion. It’s thoughtful, intentional, and holistic. It’s also an argument for hitting the brakes on excessive production, overcomplicated supply chains, and mindless consumption.”
Inspired by Nature
We use the chemistry of nature to bring life to natural fibers in brilliant colors created by nature itself, using generations-old techniques that are environmentally sustainable.
Based in northern California, De la Terra makes use of the bounty our state has to offer. Whether harvesting acorns in the mountains of Mendocino or hand-picking marigolds in Los Angeles, we seek to showcase Mother Earth's brilliant colors.
All of our items are one-of-a-kind and handmade with love.
The Dyes
All of our brilliant colors are made from plant-based material such as turmeric, onion, avocado, blackberry and hibiscus - just to name a few. Once brewed, our colors are then processed on 100% natural animal- and plant-based fibers.
The Technique
Shibori is a dye-resist technique that originated in Japan . All of our patterns are achieved using this time-tested method.
The Process
The dying process is intricate and sometimes take days to finish a single item. All fabrics are washed thoroughly and treated with a tannin and/or mordant bath before they enter the dye pot. This ensures the color achieves its maximum potential. No harsh chemicals are ever used.
